Dance:" Breakdance and Capoeira"

For the last few weeks we practised 2 different dance styles in the class, and we plan to continue this until May. First dance is  Breakdance and another one is Capoeira. In Breakdance we did a piece and also in groups we had to add some movements into this choreography and put these pieces all together. Also we started to create Capoeira pieces in groups which we will be using in a performance later on.

Here I will put all my research which I did about these 2 dance styles:

Breakdance:

Breakdance (also called breaking, b-boying or b-girling) is a type of dance that is done by people who are part of the hip hop culture. B-boy means boy who dances on breaks (breakbeats). Breakdancing was invented in the early 1970s in African-American and Puerto Rican communities in South Bronx in New York City. The dance style evolved during the 70s and 80s in big cities of the United States.
Breakdancing uses different body movements, spins, arm movements, leg movements, all of which are done to the rhythm of hip hop music. Breakdancing was most popular in the 1980s but continues to be common today.
There are four categories in breakdance. They are power moves (windmill, tomas, airtrax and so on), style moves, toprock, downrock (footwork), and freezes (chair, airchair and so on). Many of moves come from gymnastics and kung-fu.

Breakdancers dance with breakbeats. The difficulty of their skills decides the better b-boy. One of the biggest breakdance contests in the world is Battle of the Year (BOTY). It has several different types of contests. There are one-on-one battles, team battle, contest of showcase and so on. B-boy battle means dancing on random music. In 2013, the team coming from South Korea, Fusion MC, won the championship. Floorriorz coming from Japan got the award of best show.

Another stile is Capoeira :

Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and music, and is sometimes referred to as a game.It was developed in Brazil mainly by West African descendants with native Brazilian influences, probably beginning in the 16th century. It is known for quick and complex moves, using mainly power, speed, and leverage for a wide variety of kicks, spins, and highly mobile techniques.
The most widely accepted origin of the word capoeira comes from the Tupi words ka'a ("jungle") e pûer ("it was"), referring to the areas of low vegetation in the Brazilian interior where fugitive slaves would hide. Practitioners of the art are called capoeiristas.
On 26 November 2014 capoeira was granted a special protected status as "intangible cultural heritage" by UNESCO.

My comments:
From these 2 dances I prefer Breakdance over Capoeira because I danced a bit of Breakdance before and I can connect easier with this dance than with the other one. The Capoeira is really interesting dance but this is definitely not my style. Now there is a lot of work to do because I have to learn some new movements that are difficult for me.Also I need to make my arms and hands stronger to be able to lift up my body.
